Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

KATY PRAIRIE CONSERVATION

The Katy Prairie is a non-profit land trust North of Houston which works to protect green space and serve as a natural deterrent for flooding by restoring tallgrass wetlands which used to include most of the land now covered over by concrete development. They also enhance wildlife habitats, sponsor scientific research, and promote public programming on conservation to school age children.
May 2 at 6:30 they will be having a Katy Prairie Conservancy Bash at the Houston Country Club to raise money for all their worthwhile programs and YOU CAN HELP! Please donate and/or come to the party to promote this important work. The painting above along with many other exciting items will be auctioned at the Bash. Here is the link for tickets:

How to Find Yourself

HOW TO LOSE YOURSELF

Thomas Merton said, "Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time." Certainly, you don't have to paint in order to lose yourself in Art. A visit to a concert, museum, or gallery can do the same thing for most. However; my greatest joy is to teach what I have learned to others and what I know best is oil painting. Hopefully, you enjoy my little weekly musings about life as an artist. However; my main goal is to share the joy of creating with each of you. "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." and, " Creativity is contagious, pass it on." Albert Einstein.

The Randomness of Life

I AM GRATEFUL

Last week I had to share the sad news of my younger sister's death and a friend comforted me with a heartfelt note about the need "to muddle through in the randomness of life." That idea really struck me because in the natural order of things, life would unfold in an orderly sequence, and my younger sister would go last, not first. However; in life, things don't always go as planned. In my business, I look for, and therefore, often see, the unexpected crop up, at random times, in random places. I use to think we were somehow in control but, in Nature, as in the rest of life, it is that random seed cropping up in an otherwise planned garden, that can bring a special beauty in unexpected places. All of your notes and kind words, have brought comfort in this sad time, and although I didn't plan it, I am grateful for all of you and your beautiful and random acts of kindnesses.

OUR LITTLE SISTER, SUSAN

Our little sister, Susan, died last Wednesday morning, (Holy Week) after a long and difficult illness. When she knew it was finally time to go, she went very peacefully and for that, we are all grateful. I envision it was like a homecoming. She certainly knew how much we all loved her, and as my sister Renee said, "She had a soft landing." Susan kept her funny sense of humor right to the end! However; remembering her humor, and all the special conversations we have had makes it very difficult to let her go. I miss her very much.
