Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

WANT TO GO TO SAN MIGUEL NEXT AUGUST?

One of the main reasons I rent different houses every summer is that I don't want to have the same scenery to paint year after year. However; the house we rented this year in San Miguel is a particularly lovely 5 bedroom house in the center of San Miguel with 2 Great cooks! Every morning we awakened to fresh squeezed orange juice, local fruit, yummy pastries from the bakery next door, and a full breakfast. At lunch or in the evening, we had delicious homemade Mexican cooking waiting for us so it was difficult to sample all the gourmet restaurants San Miguel has to offer. Naturally we love a challenge, so we persevered! Perhaps I need to rent this same house next August...what do you think? Want to join me? I will be taking reservations NOW for August 2018. As many of you know, the trips fill up quickly, so if you would like to join me in San Miguel next August, let me know as soon as possible.

HANNAH GALLERY, FREDERICKSBURG

Besides my main Houston Gallery, Thornwood Gallery and Copper Tree Gallery in Round Top, Texas, I will be in a show this Fall in Fredericksburg, Texas at Hannah Gallery. The Gallery will have openings September 1, October 6, November 3 and December 1 and I hope you will plan a trip to visit during one of those Openings. After participating in the Kimball Art Festival in Park City the first of August, I am more grateful than ever to have such fine Galleries show my work. Although fun, my husband and I could not believe how much work was involved! Best to spend my time painting and let the professionals do the selling. However; I did enjoy getting feedback from everyone who came to my booth. The kids always wanted to tell you which ones were there favorites and one man who bought a painting said he and his wife loved to collect art. He said, "You could spend $400. on a fancy meal for the family that was over in one night, or you could buy art that your family would enjoy for a lifetime." I like the way he thinks! And yes, I do have paintings for as little as $400.

Survivors Guilt

HARVEY REFUGEES

Seven of us left Houston for a painting trip to San Miguel the week before the Hurricane and then watched with horror while the storm slowly churned toward our Home Town. One couple decided to go home early, but the rest of us stayed in this beautiful house and wait it out. Every morning the cooks arrived to squeeze fresh orange juice, and a platter of local fruit; mangoes, papaya, melon, bananas, etc. as we woke to another beautiful cool and sunny day. The contrast between what was happening to our family and friends and what we were experiencing was palatable... so naturally, Guilt set in. The airports were closed and the airlines kept canceling our flights so finally everyone decided to take a deep breath and enjoy where we were. We just got home Sunday, 8 days later, but the National TV coverage of Houston's response to the disaster continues to make all of us proud. The rest of the country and the World saw what makes Houston, and Texas so Great! People helping people no matter who you are, not waiting for someone else to come help. Not complaining, just getting it done! It's enough to make me weep. I will be donating all the plein air paintings I painted during the 2 weeks in San Miguel towards the relief effort. Tune in after I figure out what is the best way to go about this.
