Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

THORNWOOD GALLERY GROUP EXHIBITION

Thornwood Gallery's Fall Show is always special with new works from all of the Gallery's Artists showing their latest creations. This large painting, "Orange Light" has been through many versions as I have worked on it all year long. Finally I am finished! "How do you know when you are finished?" you ask. When you can't think of another thing to do to make it better, is the only answer I have. My vision for this painting is that it hang over someones fireplace mantle. Please come Saturday October 21 from 5-7 at Thornwood Gallery, 2643 Colquitt Street at the Upper Kirby location. As usual, the opening will be glamorous.

Bellas Artes

10/12/2017 9:25:08 AM | By Nancy Paris Pruden | Comment on this

What is it about the Latin men? They all seem to instinctively know what women want. We watched another young lover wooing a pretty girl at the Jardin and then, just as we started painting around the corner at the Bellas Artes, this elegant guitarist shows up. Javier Estrada, "The Gypsy",who has serenaded us in past years, is a San Miguel institution. For 20 pesos for a CD, you get a wonderful afternoon painting while listening to Flamingo guitar music. As the sun dappled slowly across the arches of this 18th century former convent, the music floated through the ancient halls. Naturally this is one of my favorite places to paint in this old Colonial town. I will be taking another group to San Miguel August 11-18, 2018. Please email me if you would like to join us.

IT'S SO EASY

One of the many reasons I love to take people on painting trips to San Miguel is, It's So EASY! There's a non-stop, 90 minute flight from Houston to Queretaro, Mexico and then you are picked up at the airport and whisked to your lovely house in another hour. The town is contained so you don't need a car and taxis are cheap and plentiful if you don't feel like walking. The people are wonderful, the restaurants first-rate, and the scenery breathtaking and No Jet Lag. What's not to like? After spending a few days painting around our house, we all decided to venture out to the "Jardin" just 2 blocks away. We painted there all morning and then decided to go to a restaurant for Comida, (dinner) which is the main meal of the day. This meal usually starts around 2:00 and often, with drinks and such, lasts until 4:00, so naturally a nap is in order. After that we usually gather around the swimming pool for more drinks or paint, or go shopping. If we are not going to a party or Art Opening we can always have the soup and salad or enchiladas the cooks have left on the stove and watch the sunset. On Saturday night and Sunday we go out for supper because the cooks are off. This is not a hardship! What is difficult is to come back to your Life...sigh
