Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

30″x 40″

Available at The Gallery at Round Top

New Gallery

Of course Harris Gallery is my main gallery, but I am expanding to the country;”The Gallery at Round Top”! Like Harris Gallery, they are very friendly and welcoming so I know it will be mutually beneficial. They have a small town atmosphere but the paintings are quite sophisticated. Probably because both the owners, Karen and Ken, are artists. Many Houstonians have second homes in the Round Top, Brenham area, but I hope to flush out new collectors of my work. If you are in the area, please stop by and see The Gallery at Round Top. It’s right off the square, in the center of Bybee Shopping Village, where everyone knows everyone and you won’t be a stranger for long.

Portrait of a Beautiful Lady

Ellen

Ellen is obviously a very beautiful woman! I was delighted to get this commission for many reasons, but foremost is my love of painting “Women of undetermined age”. Their face is full of character and that kind of beauty I find far more pleasing. Ellen’s piercing blue eyes hold a depth that only comes from loving and living life well. I also got a wonderful new friend in the process!

Oil Sketch of White Peony

Oil Sketch as a Tool

Often, before doing a larger painting, I do a small oil sketch of the subject I am painting. This oil sketch is only 7″x 5″, but is beautiful in the limited values used. The pastel shades examine the different colors you can see within a white flower. That is why I can’t seem to get enough of painting white flowers and particularly Peonies! Half of painting is just learning to see. It’s wonderful training your eyes to really SEE! It’s also kind of like meditating, which can become a spiritual experience. You can do this too… just take time to slow down and REALLY look.

Leah Irene Murphy

Leah is our first Grandchild , so she is naturally perfect in every way! We just got back from a week visit with her and are enchanted. A friend said, “being a grandparent is the only thing in this world which is NOT overrated”. This is indeed TRUE! She was born March 22 at 2:00 am after a big Mexican dinner. She weighed in at 7 pounds 11 ounces and is named after my grandmother and her Dad’s grandmother. Very special. I planned on doing a number of these small paintings but alas, only had one hour to do this one while she slept. The days fly by with a newborn. Maybe next time…
