Blog
Dear Art Friends,
This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.
So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).
Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

Brenham Spring Garden

Available at Harris Gallery, Houston

Texas Country Garden
This is a gallery size painting I did from an oil sketch of an old fashion, Texas garden. We had just arrived for a painting trip and I did a demonstration quickly as the sun was setting. The fields surrounding the garden were awash with a warm yellow glow. Daisies and Iris swayed in the breeze and the rose trellis was filled with buds about to pop. So naturally , after the demonstration we all did just that… popped.
“A Cold One”! This painting along with many others will be on display March 5th at Harris Gallery, 1100 Bissonnet, Houston from 6-8. Hope you can come!
Peonies for a Madonna
Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Available at Harris Gallery, Houston
24″ x 24″
White on White Peonies
If last week’s painting was inspired by Lady Gaga, then this week’s painting takes inspiration from a Madonna… not to be confused with the rock star. I was looking for something soft, quiet, and understated, while still having glamour. When I brought this over to Harris Gallery last week they said it looked like a wedding gift. How cool would that be; to be registered for a wedding gift at Harris Gallery! Not a bad idea.
Peonies’ Drama

Lady Gaga Peonies
After watching the Grammy’s Sunday night , I was reminded of a painting I did recently of white peonies with a dark ground. Talk about high glamour! It’s so much fun to go over the TOP with an idea! So I am naming this ” Lady Gaga Peonies”. I hope the painting lives up to her “namesake”. I picture this painting in a white room with silver and crystal. I hope “Lady Gaga Peonies” will find a new home March 5th at my show at Harris Gallery in Houston. You are all invited!
Valentine Roses

Roses are Red, & Orange, & Pink
My husband asked me what I wanted for Valentine’s and I said “anything but just plain red roses.” Am I the only one who feels this way or are you’ll tired of them too? I guess we are just spoiled but there are so many different colors of roses now… why limit yourself to RED? So Happy Valentine’s Day! I would like to send you a multi-colored bouquet!
Valentine Tulips

Lacy Parrot Tulips
I always thought Parrot Tulips only came in orange and yellow , but when I saw these I thought they looked like a ruffly old fashion Valentine. I did this small study and then a bigger version for my show at Harris Gallery, March 5th. I love the way they flop their heads… so demure, don’t you think? The idea for this painting was again to have a light instead of a dark background which causes problems with how to fade some flowers in the background for a sense of depth. To solve this challenge, I painted the flowers in the back of the arrangement lighter, without texture and blurred. The gallery size painting (below) is available at Harris Gallery in Houston.
