Blog
Dear Art Friends,
This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.
So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).
Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

View near Club de Golf
For part of my visit this summer in San Miguel , I was the lucky house guest of a gracious friend, Jackie, who lives at Club de Golf. My father use to play here 25 years ago and I always thought the name was so funny somehow. However; the views of the mountains in this beautiful neighborhood outside San Miguel are nothing short of breath taking! I was busy painting one morning when I spied this small herd of goats. Thrilled I took a photo and added them to the painting later. It’s always fun to have people or animals in a painting, but they don’t always cooperate. Luckily I have learned to
always bring a camera when plein air painting.
Arapahoe Mountain, Colorado

Grizzly Peak
“Grizzly Peak” is not the most appealing name for a mountain, but that is indeed the name of the pyramid shaped peak which climbs to 13,427 feet in the Colorado Rockies. Arapahoe Ski Basin, which is right below the peak is the highest ski resort in the U.S. The average snow fall is 367 feet so it is no wonder that the resort is usually open from the middle of October until the first of June. The Arapahoe Range is the view from Aunt Nan’s living room where I had the pleasure of painting for a week this June.
I used a sand medium to get a rocky texture on this little painting. I have experimented with sand before and noticed that the paint seems to feather and soften the edges of the image. This has the added benefit of giving the illusion of atmosphere.

The Moffat Tunnel
As children, my sisters and I would spend part of the summer in Colorado at Aunt Nan and Uncle Woody’s home in the mountain. We really could not understand why our parents lived in Texas when we could live in COLORADO! After one particularly hot summer, my sister Susan, then age 10, told Aunt Nan she would be sending adoption papers when we returned to Ft. Worth.
I visited Aunt Nan again this summer in June and in September. It was glorious and I painted the whole time. This is the view in June from Aunt Nan’s kitchen. The valley leads to the Moffat Tunnel ( the longest tunnel in North America.) The light was constantly changing, but when it lit up the valley I thought, “That’s It!”
