Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

Colors of Ukraine

BLUE AND YELLOW

I have been reading about artists donating 50% of their sales of Blue and Yellow paintings to benefit the people of Ukraine so I went on a search of paintings I could offer up for sale. Alas, I had a lot of paintings with Blue and Yellow but they were either sold or had another color in there as well. So, If any of these strike your fancy, please email me here. If they are not the size you need, I can do commissions to any size you want. The suffering and bravery of the Ukrainian people is an inspiration to us all! Anything we can do to help is a win for Freedom! Unless you have another charity I will donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Sunflowers For Ukraine

SYMBOL OF COURAGE

Thank you so much to all of you that bought paintings last week for relief in Ukraine! I was so encouraged that this week I will donate 100% of the sale of this painting to relief for the Ukrainian people. Unless you have another charity I will donate to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Sunflowers have long been Ukraine's national flower and has been grown on it's central and eastern steppes since the middle of the 18th century. It is cultivated for its seeds, which are eaten as a snack or crushed into oil, a key ingredient in cooking and an export product of vital importance. With the war, planting has been delayed this Spring but the flower has become a symbol of solidarity and resistance for the Ukrainian people. "Courage is Grace under pressure."

Joy and Purpose

JOY AND PURPOSE

"Joy is but the sign that creative emotion is fullfilling it's purpose." (Charles du Bois) Every morning I get up and ask my Higher Power if I can fullfill his purpose for ME today. At the end of most days I feel contentment and a since of Joy. That is what teaching and painting does for me! I am not saying that taking up painting will do the same for you, but I do know that so many of us are so upset about the state of the world that it is difficult to concentrate on the beauty we have in our brief but dazzling lives. When I get overwhelmed with all the terrible things that are happening, I try to ask myself; What can I do about it? If I can make a difference in any area I worry about, then I try to do my little part! But, if I can't do anything about it, then pray that those that can, Will, and let the rest go! Joy and Beauty are available to all if we just look for it.
The lovely Pond you see above is right here in Houston at "The Glades" in Memorial Park.

Field of Lavendar

3/6/2022 4:28:43 PM | By Paris | Comment on this

In the summer of 2002, Twenty years ago, I went on my first Plein air painting trip to Drome de Provence in Northern France. For 10 glorious days, I stood in fields of flowers painting lavendar and sunflowers and was Transformed! And, needless to say, also Hooked on Plein air painting! The painting below was from that trip. Recently, some Art Patrons, (a daughter and her father) I have worked with before, asked if I could paint this field of Lavendar from their pre-covid trip. Naturally, I jumped at the chance! To relive that special time so long ago was a gift for me as well. We have all been so cooped up for so long! Not being able to travel outside the US borders has left me with an acute case of Wanderlust. Thank you, Richard and Amy, for giving me a chance to experience your memory with you! "Experience is based more on memory than reality." "Share your life with others and you will have a joyful life." Two quotes to live by.
