Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

Cherry Pie a La Mode

HOW SWEET IS THAT?

Right before Thanksgiving, I got a call from my neighbor asking what kind of pie I would like for Thanksgiving? She said that her husband's family baked pies for all the neighbors every year and they were continuing the tradition! How Sweet Is That? Just so happens my daughter's favorite pie is cherry but they were not coming this year so I had not made one. Still; I was feeling sad, missing my family, and the big Holiday Week excitement. Somehow having the taste of cherry pie in my mouth for our little Thanksgiving dinner made me feel so much better. Thanks so much, Lynn and Harrison! During this Pandemic, little acts of kindness mean so much! Hope your Holidays are Safe and Happy!

Graham at One

Every year, at about this time, my students and I have a flurry of Christmas commissions for family portraits. Naturally, I have waited until the last minute to paint my own youngest grandson, Graham, but I think I might have procrastinated so I could be with that sweet face just before Christmas. I was in California with him in September, and he is the best-natured little thing, always smiling, but this time I wanted to paint him with his mouth closed, This year I have also had to postpone indoor classes and am not traveling to California to be with my children. Luckily with FaceTime, I have been able to make suggestions with students' work, and see the Grands often, but still, there is nothing like being together in person. I love discussing everyone's portraits and miss "The Class" comradery. It's hard to not be with those sweet little people for Christmas as well, but we can all take comfort that this too shall pass. Somehow life is more precious now that we are forced to take nothing for granted. I am grateful for memories of past Christmases! We will make wonderful memories again soon! Merry Christmas!

GRATEFUL TO STILL BE HERE

After my mother turned 90, when anyone asked, "How are you doing, Sue?" her answer was always, "I'm still here!" With the Corona Virus raging, I am grateful this Thanksgiving that I am still here as well! So, let's all get up Thanksgiving morning and eat desert first! That's my plan anyway! In any creative endeavor, I have noticed that the best results happen when you hold nothing back! Don't save any idea or technique, or even a glob of paint for another day; go for it now! As one of my favorite Art teachers use to always say, "Be Bold!" Our World is in a mess right now. We all need Your creative ideas so let them Rip! But please, do it someplace safe. The most exciting solutions to any problem starts with a thought, usually alone, not in a crowd. Stay Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
