Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

Spring Flower Show
Thornwood Gallery is having a Spring Flower Show this Saturday, May 2, with Champagne and light Hors d'oeuvres from 1:00 to 5:00. That way you can toast Kentucky Derby Day, get in a festive mood, and still be home in time to see the race and sing "My Old Kentucky Home"! Naturally I will have quite a few flower paintings in the show but other artists from the Gallery will be represented as well. If you own a big hat, feel free to wear it! A good time will be had by all, and That you can bet on!
Notes on the painting above. The Still Life is one of the most personal of subject-matters. The artist is arranging objects that have special meaning often loaded with private emotion. The silver teapot is from my mother's tea service which my grandmother bought for her, and I inherited. My grandmother was especially fond of pink roses and hydrangeas, and the circle motif bounds the 3 of us together. I like to think for Eternity.

Reflective Light on TCYC Chairs
These white Adirondack chairs were arranged on the lawn at Texas Corinthian Yacht Club near Kemah this winter; Ready for a Party! Can't you just hear the clink of ice and the sound of sailing stories being told? However; as an artist, the first thing I saw was the colors of the reflected light bouncing off those white surfaces. The Yellowed winter grass and the clear Blue sky mixed with the warm sunlight played over the white surfaces turning them many shades of Blue-green and Blue-violet. Each chair faced the sun at a slightly different angle which also affected how Yellow or Blue the opposite side appeared. I wish I had thought to put a Red beach ball on one of those chairs... then we really would have had a Wild Time!  This stuff really floats my boat!
