Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

Mother’s Day Flowers

Red Hot, White and Blue!

My Children sent me these flowers for Mother’s Day. My daughter ordered peach colored roses but instead I got these orange-red ones. However, I was thrilled because they are so beautiful and go so well with the white peonies in my blue and white vases. Naturally I had to paint them; perfect for the 4th of July! I guess that makes me a Red Hot Mama.

Praying for Rain!

We lived in El Paso for 7 years and I always loved the smell of rain in the desert. That sudden cool breeze that follows a cloud burst along with the smell of dry dirt sighing with satisfaction. I had a dream last week about a real old fashion gully washer and could almost smell it! This plein air painting was done in the Hill Country but the gully full of water was not added until after my dream. The weather man said we had a good chance for rain this week so I hope this painting is a prediction of things to come… SOON!

Purple Mist, Yellow Grass

The forest where I painted this painting looks like it is a million miles from Houston, when in fact it is at the Houston Arboretum. The stream was more like a mosquito infested bog, but hey, if you can’t look at your world through rose colored glasses then you might miss half of the beauty in this world. Actually, it was not until I squinted that I saw that the mist was warm because the early morning light was pink. Have you noticed that in the morning the light is a different color than in the afternoon? I was driving down West Alabama yesterday about 5:00, looking into the sun and the sky was yellow and the Williams Tower was a pale orange. Check it out! The world is full of color!

San Miguel View

This painting is one view from the roof top garden of my favorite house we rent in San Miguel. I am still sad I will not be able to paint there this summer, but alas, I couldn’t get anyone to sign up for my workshop in Mexico. Yes, there is a lot of bad press about the drug wars in Mexico, but San Miguel is statistically much safer than any town in the US. Hopefully the Mexican government will continue to fight the drug cartels and rid the country of this problem once and for all. Columbia is a perfect example of citizens taking back their country and I pray Mexico will win this fight soon!

This painting was painted last summer and I thought I would include it as an example of the “study of trees”. This time all the trees are on the same plane so I didn’t have much areal perspective, but they are different shapes and colors. Variety of size and color makes for an interesting composition.
