Blog

Dear Art Friends,

This is an introduction to my art blog. I have wanted to do this for a long time because between commissions and large gallery paintings I do little oil sketches of ideas for future paintings or just small things of beauty that strike me at odd moments. Because I paint every day, after a while, these little canvases add up. So I thought I would share them with you. I will be sending them out about every week or two. If you enjoy them, please forward them to friends on your email list. If you do not want to be bothered, no problem just cancel the blog.

So, please consider joining my weekly newsletter (see link below).

Thanks, Nancy Paris Pruden

INSPIRATION FROM BOREDOM

Last week I drove a turnaround trip to Fredericksburg taking new paintings to "The Good Art Company Gallery". As I blasted down I-10 over the hot Texas landscape my eye kept wandering to a few lone courageous clouds floating over the parched Hill Country landscape. It reminded me of one of the paintings in the back of my car, but this time I wanted to paint it with the fields golden yellow and the sky taking up most of the canvas. Floating over the panorama would be one lone cloud. I can see it in my mind's eye and that is where Inspiration comes from. Boredom and a wandering eye. Here are 2 quotes about Boredom. "Boredom is the dream Bird that hatches the egg of Experience" And my personal favorite, "You need to let the little things that would ordinarily bore you suddenly thrill you."

Sunset through the Trees

Inspiration in East Texas
Some say Pablo Picasso was a genius but here is a quote that I think sums up his secret, "Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working." So if we think all we need to do is wait around for "Inspired Lightning" to strike us, then we will be waiting a long time.  The painting above was not inspired by the sunset, but by the reflections of the trees on the water. What happened was while I was painting the scene, the sun dipped below the trees and sent an inspiring orange glow over the lake. Some might say, that was just luck, but if you just get started, Inspiration will follow.
