Savannah on My Mind

Sold

Last Painting of this Decade

This litte painting was commissioned for a wedding present of Savannah, Georgia. I photographed it in September of 2001 while on vacation with our daughter who lived in New York at the time. We all flew back to our homes on September 9th and I completely forgot what a wonderful time we had on that trip until I got this commission and looked back over the photographs.

I kind of feel that way about this whole decade. There have been many good times and many blessings, but Boy, hasn’t the 2000′s been tough?!

So here’s to 2010! Have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Study in White

Peonies are so lacy and delicate that I have always been drawn to them. However; white peonies or any white flower for that matter, is also full of other colors. You can see pink, yellow, violet, blue, green, grey, and a hint of orange. I bought these for my Christmas table and then sneaked upstairs to my studio and painted them twice. Why not? It’s the Holidays and once is never enough.

Study in Green

This Fall I have had a wonderful time painting across Texas! This was painted from a photo taken on a trip to Wimberly on Cypress Creek this November. Our family has spent many a wonderful weekend floating down this creek. Even in August it can be quite cool, so in November, a canoe is the way to go! The Cypress trees turn red and orange and I was captivated by their reflections in the green water with the cool green canoe. Once again, red and green are complimentary colors, so you know you’ve got the makings of a pleasing painting. I made the little flecks of red guide you through the painting.

Red Oaks in Autumn

The week before Thanksgiving I went with the Oil Painters of America on a “Paint Out” to Fredericksburg, Texas. A “Paint Out” is a group of artists in a beautiful location who paint like crazy for a day! The weather in the Texas Hill Country that day was perfect and I painted two paintings. This was my morning painting of cows and the changing colors of the Red Oaks on a hill. I was very glad I picked my spot far away from the cows, because a couple of artists were in the field with the cows and things got a little ugly.
