Diana

I painted this 8″x 10″ oil sketch on a cloudy day at Bayou Bend Gardens of the Goddess Diana. The original statue is in the Louve and our’s is a Roman copy of a Greek goddess. Diana is the Goddess of the Hunt, Forests and Hills, and the Moon. I wanted to concentrate only on the statue so I made the trees quite abstract. I have been experimenting with this technique for a while now and think it works! I have another one I painted that same day that I will feature next week.

Payton at Three

This beautiful little girl is another Grand Niece. She lives in Kansas City and is the Grandaughter of my sister and brother-in law’s. Her parents are both educaters so do not have much time to visit us so we have never met Payton in person. Thank goodness for email! We have seen her taking her first step, first drink out of a tippy cup, First, Second and Third Birthday party’s and first encounter with Grandparent’s dogs.In June she got a baby brother and this picture was taken in the hospital. After examining all these pictures when I saw this one I thought it showed the person she is and will become; very special!

Flower Mercado, San Miguel

In Mexico, most people in small towns, still shop at outdoor markets where the fruits, vegetables, and flowers are all artistically displayed. In San Miguel, the mercado is in an ancient building near the center of town with the rest of the market spilling out under tents and umbrellas. It is filled with wonderful sounds and smells. People crowd in the narrow aisle selecting from many beautiful booths and everyone seems to have their favorite shop owners. In the center of the building is the flower market and no meal is complete without flowers on the table. It is too crowded to set up my easel there, so I had to paint this little 6×8 study from a photo. I will paint a large one from this study but will buy flowers to use as examples.
