Sarah at one

Price of a 6″x8″ portrait by request

Sarah at one

Sarah is the youngest of three and they are all under five. She has two older brothers and Sarah is one LUCKY BABY! Don’t you know she knows it… just look at her!! I was fortunate to get the chance to paint such a delightful face. She is full of joy and promise. Every expression of Sarah’s reflects a future full of blessings. I hope I will be able to share her future. She is my great niece.

Sunflowers

A few years ago, I was fortunate to go on a painting trip for 3 weeks in the south of France. I went with 6 other painters and the whole experience was unforgettable. We painted many times in fields of sunflowers and lavender. The purple of the mountains and lavender combined with the yellow sunflowers was a match made in heaven! Now every time I see sunflowers it reminds me of that perfect summer, watching the sunflowers follow the sun with their bright faces.

These sunflowers were given to me by a thoughtful friend who knew I would enjoy painting them. I love the way they flop their heavy heads. When they are growing in the field their heads are all facing the sun, but when cut, you can arrange them to suit yourself.I lit them with a spotlight to increase the drama. They truly are the essence of summer!

Thinking about being Lazy

This little painting reminds me of that song about summer being a time to be lazy. I don’t know about you but I think “being lazy “gets a bad rap. I need those reflective times of inactivity to dream up creative solutions. So I’ve decided to give myself permission between now and Labor Day to just be lazy. Let’s see if I can pull it off.

In the mean time I did want to say that this little painting was painted at our friends Hill Country farm on a misty summer morning. We were invited back for the 4th of July and the same scene looks entirely different after this heat and drought. It was all in shades of gold and yellow with dark shadows. I’ll paint it again.
